where she was an original founding member of the Spiritual Choir.
She later
moved to Winston-Salem, NC upon her marriage to Mr. James E. Haynie.
She joined Kimberly Park Holiness Church under the Pastorate of the
late Bishop S. M. Caesar. She served faithfully as she felt a
greater call on her life, to extend her ministry beyond the church
walls. She made an initial recording on a 45’ with the “Gore
Family”. She also began singing with the Ebernette Gospel
Singers, and traveling with the Tommiettes of High Point, N.C..
With the
encouragement of the late Mother Lucille Robbins, she joined the

has been at Macedonia, she has functioned in several capacities:

Holiness Churches of God, Inc.
In 1980 the
S. D. Johnson Ensemble was formed in honor of the present Pastor
Apostle Sylvester D. Johnson, and they accompanied Madame Haynie as
she traveled and ministered in song as well as during her
anniversary celebrations. The name was later changed to “The
Victory Praise Ensemble” as God would go forth through their
ministry as they ministered to the sick, afflicted, bereaved,
homeless and incarcerated at the Forsyth County Jail and Prison.
Madame Haynie
continues to receive numerous accolades and awards in recognition of
her outstanding service to the
community. The Mayor, Allen Joines and the City of Winston-Salem has
proclaimed June 5, 2005 as “Madame Mary L. Flake-Haynie
Day” in honor and respect for her genuine ability to reach
others through song. She has on several occasions ministered in song
for the Chancellor, Faculty, Staff and students of Winston-Salem
State University where she recently retired and has recently
returned to W.S.S.U. at the request of her former department.
In 1983 she was awarded “The Best Female Vocalist” by the
Interdenominational Gospel Fellowship and WSMX Radio. On April
12, 1997 she was inducted into the “Hall of Fame” at the Waljo’s

song on the same stage as the late Rev. James Cleveland and the
Cleveland Singers, Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Canton Spirituals,

Vanessa Bell-Armstrong to name a few. She has traveled this
country extensively proclaiming that “God’s Got An Answer” and that
